Monday 15 February 2010

The final programme is now available: EAP 2010 Programme (PDF, 279 KB)

The challenge of teaching EAP to lower level students

Guest speakers: Diane Schmitt and Andy Gillett

The theme of this year's one-day workshop focuses on the challenges that many EAP tutors encounter when teaching classes with lower level students.

  • Can students with an IELTS score (or equivalent) of 5 or less really cope with an EAP syllabus?
  • Do teachers teach EAP, General English, or a combination of both at this level?
  • What do you do in your classroom?
At the workshop there will be the opportunity to attend a variety of sessions linked to this theme as well as discussing some of these challenges with other EAP practitioners.

Included in the registration fee are a buffet lunch and tea/coffee in the mid-morning and mid-afternoon breaks.  There is a range of comfortable Bed and Breakfast establishments in and around the town centre, within walking distance from ELT.

To find out more about accommodation, amenities and travel to St Andrews please see the University's visiting webpages. ELT's Google map gives more detailed instructions on how to find Kinnessburn.

St Andrews is an ancient, historic university city, with beautiful beaches, lively bars and restaurants, a small theatre and, of course, the world famous golf course. Combine the EAP workshop with a weekend of sightseeing and (or) golf.

There will be a small publishers' exhibition with a display of the latest EAP materials at the workshop and Trinity College London will also be present with materials and information on their GESE and ISE exams.
