International Foundation Programme for Science (January Intake)
With an intake in early January each year, this intensive programme enables students to complete their studies in time to enter university in September of the same year.

Successful students have the potential to:
- Progress onto a Single or Joint Honours degree in Science
- Progress to International Foundation Programme for Medicine
The programme is intensive and academic, with a focus on integrated skills and subject knowledge to prepare you for success on a science degree.
What will I study?
The programme consists of three elements:
- 1000 level academic module (along with first year science students)
- Two further CIFP academic modules
- English language and integrated study skills courses
The English and study skills courses are core for all students; the other academic modules you take will depend on what you want to study for your degree. The options are shown in the table below:

How will I be assessed?
Coursework is included in all components. On the language and study skills components, this includes essays, reports, oral presentations, tests of listening and reading comprehension, all of which require to be presented in clear academic language incorporating references.
The modules include lab work, microlabs, tests and tutorial work. At the end of each study period, there will be examinations. The module examinations take place in May.
The final assessments include examinations, an oral presentation, and a work-based project (for Pathway to Medicine students) or discipline-specific literature review project for students intending to study on a science degree programme.
What are the entrance requirements?
You should have good school leaving qualifications from your home country with an A grade average, or more than 85%, or a GPA of at least 3.2 (depending on country).
You can contact us for specific details about the grades needed from your high school system.
You may apply before your results are available (SPM, for example) and we can make you a conditional offer. We also require IELTS 6.0 or equivalent.
What if I want to study Medicine?
If you have excellent school leaving grades, including A or equivalent in Chemistry, demonstrable interest in Medicine, and good communication skills, you can join the Pathway to Medicine, which is an extended route into a Medicine degree which starts with the International Foundation Programme for Science (January intake) and leads on to the International Foundation Programme for Medicine.
