MSc in Money, Banking and Finance

General information for the postgraduate taught courses

There are two types of courses:
  • The Postgraduate Diploma runs full-time for two semesters. Students are assessed by both continuous assessment during the teaching of modules and by their performance in end of semester examinations.
  • The MSc course runs full-time for the full academic year. Students are assessed by continuous assessment, end-of-semester examinations and by a dissertation which is returned by the end of their year of studies (late August).

A basic requirement is that both Postgraduate Diploma and MSc students must gain a total of 120 credits from core modules and options taken all year. Each module carries a credit weight of 20 credits. Both Postgraduate Diploma and MSc candidates are appraised by continuous assessment and an exam paper in each module chosen, which occurs at the end of the semester in which it is taught. Please note that there are no re-sit examinations. Subject to performance, Postgraduate Diploma students may proceed to write the 60 credit Dissertation for the MSc over the summer under the supervision of a member of staff, but intensive independent study is expected of all students.

The School of Economics & Finance offers a Postgraduate Diploma in Finance, a Postgraduate Diploma in Money, Banking and Finance (MBF), and a Postgraduate Diploma in International Strategy and Economics (ISE). A pass in 120 credit modules is the condition to be granted the Postgraduate Diploma.
