Information for Current Postgraduates
St Andrews has a deep tradition in economics and finance, dating back over one hundred years. Of particular note, in terms of this tradition, is W R Scott's famous work on the form and finance of joint-stock companies, and the genesis of speculative crises. Today the School of Economics & Finance has international reputation for its research. We have a large and well established group of staff who are active in teaching, research and publishing in economics and finance, over a broad range of topics.
The School is active in two main areas of postgraduate studies. First, postgraduate research supervisions; and second, postgraduate instructional courses. It offers research supervision at the MPhil and PhD levels, for high quality entrants, with good research proposals (aligned to current staff interests and expertise), and two supportive academic references. It also runs three taught Masters programmes: the MSc. in Economics; the MSc. in Finance; and the MSc in Money, Banking and Finance.
The aim of our programmes is to develop the personal and intellectual qualities of the students who come here, so that they will have a learning experience that will enhance their ability to understand the modern world. This learning experience will foster skills such as clear thinking, analytical skills and creative work in a variety of commercial and institutional contexts.
