Doctor of Letters Award for Professor Gavin C Reid
Professor Gavin Reid, of the School of Economics & Finance was awarded a
DLitt degree at the summer graduations of the University of Aberdeen, 2012.
This higher doctorate was awarded for his life's research work in small
business enterprise. His submission, which was examined by three independent
international authorities appointed by Aberdeen University, was themed
around his well-known research volume Small Business Enterprise: an Economic
Analysis and its relation to his larger body of research over three decades
on small business economics. Gavin Reid first graduated from Aberdeen
University in 1969 with an MA (Economic Science) with First Class Honours,
and was a Stephen Scholar, as well as the recipient of the Memorial Essay
Prize in Economics, and the Henry Prize in Mental Philosophy. Of his latest
Aberdeen graduation he said: 'Returning to Aberdeen for this new
graduation was a singular honour, and also an occasion rich in memories
about this ancient university. I relived many positive past experiences, and
was delighted to have family and colleagues around me to celebrate the
occasion of this new award'.
