New: MSc in Economics
The School of Economics and Finance is pleased to offer a new MSc Economics from 2012-13. This is a new, highly selective and demanding course in Economics. Our MSc in Economics is designed with a rigorous diet of courses, as you would expect from any top Economics Department. The programme will provide advanced training in essential elements of an economics masters degree - microeconomics, macroeconomics, econometrics and mathematical economics - plus a range of specialist options that reflect the interests of the staff in the department. It is constructed along the lines expected of a leading research-led economics department, and offers a good foundation in the core, whilst also giving students the opportunity to select topics from the options useful for future study or employment.
Besides the core courses (in Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, Econometric Methods and Applications and Mathematical Economics), you will have the opportunity to select two optional modules (we are currently planning to offer modules in Game Theory, Econometric Time Series Analysis, Expectations and Learning in Macroeconomics, Industrial Organisation, International Macroeconomics and Monetary Policy). The programme also includes a summer dissertation on a topic of your choice. The summer dissertation is generally the first building block of a PhD thesis for those students wishing to pursue their academic career further at PhD level. More detailed information will be available soon.
