Discipline
Any community with such a large number of people does require monitoring. However, we are all adults so the responsibility for the upholding of discipline is a job that is, in essence, shared by all of us. If we follow basic rules of common sense and show a respect for the welfare and enjoyment of others then all should go well. One of the responsibilities of the Wardennial Team is to monitor the contract compliance and health & safety of the residents.
Should you wish to report any incident of noise, smoking, harassment etc., contact the Duty Assistant Warden (7103 from your room phone) or email us. We will then deal with the situation appropriately without breaking the confidence of the person reporting the infraction.
Noise pollution within houses
When watching TV or listening to music, we should always be aware that the person in the next room may be studying or asleep or may just want some peace and quiet. Please keep volume to acceptable level that will allow personal enjoyment without impacting negatively on others. If you plan on hosting a party involving more than ten people, please let a member of the Wardennial team know by visiting the Drop-in Session (held 7pm-8pm, daily at the Warden's office opposite DRAFP reception) and bring along a Party Request Proforma (PDF, 58 KB)
Cleaning & Hygiene
As you have read in your contract, students are responsible for keeping fixtures and fittings within their room and common areas in good repair and also have responsibility for ensuring that such areas are kept clean and hygienic. The Management Team conducts monthly cleaning inspections, the schedule for which should be posted on your kitchen noticeboard. Should you have any questions regarding the inspections, please contact Reception. They are always willing to advise residents of the expected standards.
Policy on Smoking
Throughout the UK, smoking is not permitted within enclosed public areas, and the university has a zero tolerance policy on smoking within any of its buildings. This includes all private and public areas within DRAFP, including the covered entrances to the individual houses. Please also respect your neighbours, by not smoking close to the entrances as the smoke easily enters the study bedroom windows and the stairwell. Instead, smoke closer to the cigarette receptacles, where you should also extinguish your cigarette.
Bullying or harassment of any form will not be tolerated within the residence or the University as a whole. Anyone found to be taking part in the bullying or harassment of other students will be subject to University discipline.
