Teaching & Learning Committee
Membership
Director of Teaching (Convenor), Head of School, Examinations Officer, Recruitment/Admissions Officer, two Student Representatives (one sub-honours and one honours), the School Manager (for administrative support).
Remit
The Teaching and Learning Committee is a Sub-Committee of the Staff Council and answers to it and the Head of School. Its remit is:
- to promote quality enhancement in teaching and learning, and to monitor related staff-development activity;
- to implement and monitor at School-level mechanisms for ensuring quality assurance in accordance with policy and strategy formulated by the University Teaching, Learning and Assessment Committee;
- to review all aspects of teaching in the light of reports from examiners and from internal and external appraisals (reserved business where student confidentiality might be compromised);
- to co-ordinate the School's response to external appraisal;
- to co-ordinate the School's strategy for the development of and support for good practice in teaching and learning;
- to be a forum for discussion of issues raised by, and to be brought to, the Staff/Student Consultative Council. To ensure that issues raised by Staff/Student Consultative Council are pursued appropriately;
- to develop and co-ordinate responses to individual, local, national and international initiatives in the area;
- to advise the Staff Council, as appropriate, on the issues above.
Frequency of Meeting
The meeting should normally be twice per semester, with extra meetings as required by special circumstances. One meeting per semester should deal explicitly with any issues raised at the Staff / Student Consultative Council.
