Mario I. Aguilar has a particular interest in the Churches, theology, religion, ritual, and politics of Latin America and Africa, and the relation between anthropology and biblical studies.

He is currently writing a nine volume work on the social history of the Catholic Church in Chile.

Professor Mario Aguilar is the co-ordinator of the LINK Scotland-Colombia, at this University. The project was the recipient in the year 2000 of 175,000 grant from the Darwin Initiative for the survival of species at the Government's Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions.
