Biblical Studies Research Seminar

Semester 1, 2012-2013

In Semester 1 the Hebrew Bible/Old Testament and New Testament subject areas hold a joint Biblical Studies research seminar. In Semester 2 there will be separate seminars for the respective disciplines.

Meetings will be held at 2:30pm on Thursdays in College Hall, unless indicated below.

18th October 2012 Dr. David Lincicum – Departmental Lecturer in New Testament Studies, Mansfield College, University of Oxford. Mirror-Reading a Pseudepigraphal Letter.
25th October 2012 Dr. James Aitken – Lecturer in Hebrew Old Testament and Second Temple Studies, Faculty of Divinity, University of Cambridge. Scribal Culture and the Making of the Septuagint.
1st November 2012 Dr. Matthew Novenson – Lecturer in New Testament and Christian Origins, New College, University of Edinburgh. Against the Jewish Messiah – Christian Messiah Distinction.
8th November 2012 Prof. Paul Joyce – Samuel Davidson Chair in Old Testament/ Hebrew Bible, King’s College London. The Book of Lamentations in Jewish and Christian Reception.
15th November 2012 Dr. William A. Tooman – Lecturer in Hebrew Bible/Old Testament, University of St Andrews. The Hermeneutics of Scribal Rewriting in Targum Jonathan Ezekiel 1.
22nd November 2012 AAR/SBL = no meeting
29th November 2012 Dr. Matthew Collins – Senior Lecturer in Biblical Studies, Dep. of Theology and Religious Studies, University of Chester. A Tale of Two Teachers: Questioning the Priestly Nature of the Teacher of Righteousness.

Note: Prof. Steven Mason (Kirby Laing Chair of New Testament Exegesis School of Divinity, History, and Philosophy; University of Aberdeen) will be speaking on the Judeo-Roman war in the department of Classics on Friday, October 19 (time t.b.a.; check Classics website).
