Living Accommodation
The University of St Andrews is proud of the variety and range of accommodation on offer to students. The commitment to provide accommodation at a reasonable cost has been balanced with the need to maintain the properties and resource the improvements necessary to keep pace with modern standards e.g. a telephone in every room and the option for each room to be networked to the University system.Library
The Library at St Andrews dates back to the early 17th Century and over the years we have collected over one million volumes to support teaching, learning and research. Although still print-based, the balance of the collection has switched to electronic books, journals and datasets to enable easier internet access to these resources. Library
Common Rooms
Junior Common Room
Situated on the ground floor, at the heart of St Mary's College, is a dedicated space where undergraduates can meet, relax, make refreshments and share news. It's here, for better or worse, that the essay deposit boxes sit.
Quiet Room
At the top of the tower a small room is available for students to take time out for personal reflection or prayer. It retains some of the fittings from the 18th century when it was used as part of the College's residential accommodation - hence it's nickname the Bunk Room. Look carefully at one of the window panes and you'll find graffiti that's probably from that period - not something we encourage any more.
Senior Common Room
Part of the College buildings were formerly the home of the College Principal. Although the bedrooms and most living areas have been turned into offices and seminar rooms the old Drawing Room has been retained as a Senior Common Room for the staff. It is in these magnificent surroundings that receptions, occasional public meetings and regular Student Lunches are held.
Teaching Rooms
St Mary's College has lecture and, smaller, seminar rooms that ideal for honours classes and a wide range of small group tutorials. Larger, subhonours, classes sometimes meet elsewhere on the University campus.
Sports Facilities
The University Sports Centre has recently received a major upgrade, and now boasts various all-weather outside facilities, as well as a wide range of indoor and grass-based outdoor facilities. There are student clubs catering for a huge range of sports interests. The town has a swimming pool and small yachts can often be seen off the east sands. But the most obvious sport for which St Andrews is known is golf. The famous links courses are 'owned' by the town. Residents (including students) are able to play these courses for a remarkably small fee. The Old Course is periodically host to the British Open Golf Championships. Saints Sport
