Use of IT
Distance learning has been transformed by the advent of the Internet. Many people now have a reasonable level of confidence and competence in using a computer, and most have easy access to the Internet. Those who are not yet computer literate can easily become so if they choose.
The programmes we are offering are substantially based on regular Internet access to a Virtual Learning Environment (Moodle), and this will require both a basic competence in skills related to Internet use and easy access to suitable equipment. In broad terms any machine capable of accessing the Internet will suffice for the purposes of study, although a reasonably fast internet connection will make participation in the programme much easier.
Each module has a designated website granting immediate access to vital information, electronic resources of various sorts, and providing a site for regular on-line tutorials. While there will be various paper resources provided to all students, and while access to books will certainly still be required, most of the teaching and learning for modules will occur in electronic form via the Internet. It will not be possible to complete the work for modules in any other way.
