The School is pleased to announce two recent staff appointments.
Dr Elizabeth Shively has been appointed Lecturer in New Testament Studies, with effect from 1 September 2012. Dr Shively (PhD, Emory University) has taught at Wheaton College, Illinois and Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, Massachusetts. Her first book, Apocalyptic Imagination in the Gospel of Mark: The Literary and Theological Role of Mark 3:22-30, is to be published this month (August 2012). She is currently at work on articles on the social function of apocalyptic discourse in Mark and the literary role of Mark’s ending, and she writes regularly for workingpreacher.org, an online resource for preachers. Dr Shively’s teaching and research interests lie in the synoptic gospels, hermeneutics, and apocalyptic thought in the New Testament.
Dr William Hyland has been appointed Teaching Fellow in Church History, with effect from 1 September 2013. Dr Hyland (PhD, Cornell University) has taught at several American universities, most recently at St Norbert College, Wisconsin, where he is currently Director of the Center for Norbertine Studies and holds the Clarence Heidgen Chair of Catholic Studies. He has published widely in medieval and early modern church history, and is President of the editorial board of the book series Premonstratensian Texts and Studies (Cistercian Publications). He specializes in monastic history and spirituality.
