'Handbook of Liberation Theologies'

De Gruyter have announced that they will be publishing a new three-volume Handbook of Liberation Theologies under the General Editorship of Prof. Mario Aguilar, Professor of Religion & Politics at the University of St Andrews.

For the first volume on liberation theologies in Latin America the group of editors working with Prof. Aguilar includes the current President of the American Academy of Religion (AAR) Professor Otto Maduro (Drew University). Publication is anticipated to be in 2014 with later volumes to appear at two-yearly intervals. The second volume will cover African liberation theologies and the third will consider those in Asia.

Prof. Aguilar believes that this series will be a major contribution to the discipline: “In an age where the publication of radical theologies is under constraint these 75 essays will provide a complete world up-to-date outline of liberation theologies as well as the contributions of indigenous theological voices within the 21st century. It was an honour to be approached to be General Editor and to feel the immediate excited response by top scholars at the American Academy of Religion.”
