Three St Mary's faculty award winners
Saturday 30 April 2011
Dr Nathan MacDonald, Reader in Old Testament at St Mary's College, was named as the first recipient of the Society of Biblical Literature's David Noel Freedman Award for Excellence and Creativity in Hebrew Bible Scholarship. The award for 2011 was made for Dr MacDonald's essay, "Ritual Innovation: The Feast of Weeks from the Covenant Code to the Temple Scroll".
Dr MacDonald currently holds his position in St Andrews with a research appointment at the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen, Germany. He has published numerous books and articles on the interpretation of the Old Testament. His research has previously been recognized by a number of other international awards including an Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellowship, the John Templeton Award for Theological Promise, and the Sofja-Kovalevskaja-Preis.
In the 2011 University of St Andrews Students' Association Teaching Awards, Dr Kelly Iverson has won the award for Innovative Teaching, and Dr Bill Tooman has received the award for best Dissertation Supervisor (Arts/Divinity). It is excellent that two of these awards have gone to Divinity. Two other colleagues, Prof. Alan Torrance and Dr Jake Andrews, were also nominated by their students for awards.
