Professor Philip Esler will be returning to his Chair of Biblical Criticism in St Mary's College in the University of St Andrews on 1st September 2009, after serving a four-year term as the first permanent Chief Executive of the Arts and Humanities Research Council ('the AHRC'), one of the seven UK-wide Research Councils that each year spend some £3 billion on research and postgraduate support across the entire research base.
