Band Aid for students!

Academics from the University of St Andrews have written a song about the credit crunch in aid of students in need.

Dry Island Buffalo Jump, the folk-rock band consisting entirely of academics from the Arts faculty, will donate all proceeds from the sales to a newly-established fund for St Andrews students. Money raised for the Dry Island Buffalo Jump Fund will go towards prizes, bursaries or scholarships to support financially disadvantaged students at the University.

The Credit Crunch Song, inspired by the current financial crisis as well as the Old Testament, was written by founder member of the band, English lecturer, Dr Chris Jones.

Lyrics for The Credit Crunch Song

Hosea came to town, took one look around, said
'I can see what's been and what's unknown.
'Sub-prime loans for bubble homes, an upgrade to your mobile phone,
'These people gonna reap what they have sown.'

Lehman brothers and Northern Rock, panic runs on falling stock
I wouldn't wanna be a man called Dow Jones.
Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, we gonna get you a rescue pack,
'Cos all of your investors have flown, Uncle Sam is gonna take you back.

You gonna reap what you have sown, You gonna reap what you have sown
You gonna reap the whirlwind you have sown.

Globe warms up, Iceland melts down, Arctic shelf comes crumbling around
We're gonna reap the heat that we have sown.
Royal Bank has gone to hell; O Flower of Scotland, I hope we never see the like again

'Cos it's like Heraclitus said: 'The path up the mountain-side
is exactly the same one as the path going down the mountain side.'
We should all think on that some.

We gonna reap what we have sown, We gonna reap what we have sown
We gonna reap the wind that we have sown.
We gonna reap what we have sown, We gonna reap what we have sown
We gonna reap the whirlwind we have sown.

Once knew a man called Boethius, who said I mustn't fuss too much
'Bout what will come, and what will go.
Fortune's wheel always turns, whether or not it's deserved,
With that we should all feel consoled.

'Cos if you spend your life uh - cumulating stuff, and
MORE stuff, then at the end of your life you ain't gonna have nothing to show for it
BUT stuff. There gotta be more ways of being in the world other than just
owning a piece of the world. I think Hosea said that.

We're gonna reap etc.
