CRIEFF

Centre for Research into Industry, Enterprise, Finance and the Firm

Research Projects

Amongst other matters, CRIEFF exists to seek, to host and to attract, research funding. The areas in which this can be done are diverse. The watchword in this quest is quality. In seeking funding for research in CRIEFF the key point to bear in mind is that it should lead to research of international quality, which is suitable for presentation to major international conferences worldwide, and which is publishable in due course in leading general or field journals. It is of further advantage if this research is likely to have significant knowledge transfer impact.

Individuals interested in running a research project through CRIEFF should contact the Director, Gavin Reid, in the first instance.

Past research projects funded within CRIEFF have included (with fund providers indicated in brackets) projects on: venture capital intervention in mature small firms (Esmée-Fairbairn); agency aspects of venture capital investors (Carnegie); quality of patenting (Nuffield); life cycle effects in small firms (Leverhulme); information system development in small firms (CIMA); growth and development of small firms (Nuffield); information, performance and flexibility in small firms (British Academy);  risk appraisal in high technology ventures (CIMA); strategies for survival in long-lived Scottish small firms (Enterprises Ireland); innovation, linkages and performance in Scottish high-tech clusters (ScoteconNet); accounting for risk in Scottish venture capital contexts (Carnegie);  cost-effectiveness of financial reporting in small firms ESRC), seminars in economics, finance and accounting (ESRC).
