Leonidas Barbopoulos is an Economist and he joined the School of Economics and Finance at the University of St Andrews in September 2008 as a Lecturer. Prior to this he worked as a member of Teaching Faculty at Durham University, whilst studying for his PhD in Economics and Finance. He has also obtained an MSc in Finance and Investments from Durham University. At Durham, he taught on a wide range of courses in Economics, Finance, and Econometrics.

His research interests lie primarily in the fields of applied econometrics, asset pricing, corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions (M&A), cross-border M&A, and areas closely related to them. Specifically, his current work focuses on issues related to the valuation effects of international corporate governance mechanisms on firms engaging in domestic and cross-border M&A. His current work also investigates issues on whether, at the aggregate level, the clustering of domestic and cross-border M&A activity fluctuates when (a) various macroeconomic indicators for a number of countries, and (b) the stock market performance at both industry and aggregate level, fluctuate significantly from their normal values. Moreover, he is undertaking research in the fields of value ambiguity (within the framework of acquisitions of unlisted target firms) and the valuation effects of spin-off announcements.

Leonidas teaches Investment Analysis, Capital Investments Analysis, Financial Modeling and Financial Econometrics, at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
