Current Projects
Teaching methods
I am currently writing a Greek Language course. This is designed to take students from zero to the point where they can deal with actual texts. Its final part will give special attention to the difficulties which students face when they have finished the basic study of grammar and want to read ancient authors in the original. This will cover more difficult aspects of the language not dealt with usually in elementary language courses, but which students will face as soon as they try to read an original Greek author. I am also planning a parallel course for Latin, but as a result of the kind of teaching I undertook during 4 years working in Oxford, I started with the Greek one. Together the two courses will offer a new and comprehensive approach to ab initio language teaching at University level.
Translation
- Translations from modern authors into Ancient Greek: for instance, a case of Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (“The Case of the Three Students”), a story of Don Camillo by Giovanni Guareschi (“The Procession”), etc., for the sake of offering to my students some examples of the use of Ancient Greek as a live language.
- Maintenance of a web site of World News and articles in Ancient Greek (Akropolis World News - www.akwn.net), analogous to Nuntii Latini (Helsinki, Bremen and Warsaw).
Teaching
Greek and Latin languages at all levels.
