Welcome

The Classical Association of Scotland was founded in 1902. It acts as a focus for classical studies in Scotland in general, and in particular within three of the older Scottish universities (in chronological order, St Andrews, Glasgow and Edinburgh).

From 2008 onwards the CAS has moved on to a new format of meetings which aims at exploring in a dynamic fashion the common research interests which exist amongst colleagues in the three Scottish Classics departments. Now the CAS effectively organises only one general meeting each year and otherwise, in lieu of a second meeting, gives its full support on a financial and administrative level to the Scottish Classics Postgraduate Conference (held under the auspices of STAGE http://www.gla.ac.uk/departments/classics/research/stage/. CAS members are welcome to attend SCPC events.

In its new format the annual meeting of the CAS will have a flexible structure and will involve themed one-day conferences with Call for Papers and participants from anywhere in the UK (and outwith it). The theme for the first meeting of the CAS in its new format is 'The End of Ancient Empires'. The event will be held at Edinburgh (venue tba) and the provisional date for it is Saturday 20 June 2009.
