The intention behind setting up the St Andrews Summer Internship Scheme is to provide good quality internship experience to as many students as possible, including application and interview experience. To that end, the application and interview process will mirror the typical processes through which graduate recruiters select interns and employees.

The Application Process

Guidance on compiling your CV and covering letter

Once you have found the internship(s) you want to apply for, make sure your application does you justice - and that it gives you the best possible chance of getting an interview. That means taking time over crafting your CV and covering letter, and keeping the following points in mind:

How good a match are you?

This is what we will be looking at, judging how well your application matches the person specification for the job and how compellingly your interest and motivation for the position has been expressed. The applicants that accomplish this best will be shortlisted for interview.

Remember to adapt each application to the specific opportunity you are applying for in each of your applications within the scheme.

A good application is well presented, well written, grammatically accurate and appropriately detailed. Be sure to check for spelling mistakes and ask somebody else to look it over for you before you submit it.
