This page will normally contain messages of special interest and changes on a weekly basis.
Once a week we will email all penultimate and final year students to alert them to new content here, though all students can opt in and out of these emails via My Career Centre at any time.
Every academic year we will remove all graduates from our mailing list and opt-in all pre-penultimate year students (3 years from graduation) who have not yet made any preference to receiving these emails.

Summer Research Internships in St Andrews
Undergraduate Research Internship Programme (URIP)
See http://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/students/academic/internships - for full details
The Undergraduate Research Internship Programme (URIP) was launched in 2008 in response to the teaching and learning enhancement theme 'Research Teaching Linkages'. Under the URIP scheme, the University of St Andrews funds 20 undergraduates to carry out research over ten weeks during the summer vacation. The students work on independent projects under the guidance and supervision of a member of academic staff.
URIP allows St Andrews undergraduates to develop the skills needed to carry out independent studies by introducing them to the world-class research that St Andrews academics conduct. It helps students to understand the type of work they might wish to pursue after graduating, whether that is in research or not.
The URIP awards form part of a University-wide programme of undergraduate summer research. A number of academic Schools run their own summer undergraduate programmes that fund up to 50 additional placements. Further awards are received from UK sponsors of research, including The Wellcome Trust, the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council, the Nuffield Foundation and Carnegie Trust.
Call for Applications for the 2010 URIP Scheme
The University will again be running its very successful Undergraduate Research Internship Programme (URIP) which is aimed at giving undergraduate students experience of research during the summer vacation. The programme is open to all St Andrews students, typically those who are about to enter into their final year. Students will choose their own research project - which can draw upon existing research already undertaken by the University - and will be encouraged to carry it out in an independent, self-contained study. Twenty internships will be awarded this year, with each student receiving funding of £180 per week for up to ten weeks of research. Applicants should be able to demonstrate the value, academic and otherwise, of their proposed project.
The purpose of the initiative is to enhance the understanding of current research programmes for undergraduate students, giving practical experience and encouragement to consider a postgraduate career in research. Projects must be supervised and supported by a relevant member of academic staff, who must sign a statement of support as part of the application process. Applications are made direct to Faculty Deans, who will judge each application on the quality of the research and merit of the student. The deadline for submission is 26 March 2010 and applicants will be notified of the outcome by 8 April 2010.
At the end of the project students must submit a report and present their research at a special event later in the year - with the University awarding a prize to the best presentation. To take part in this scheme, students should, in the first instance, talk to any members of academic staff whose work interests them, with a view to developing a proposal for submission.
Further information about the Undergraduate Research Internship Programme can be obtained from the Dean of Arts (Professor Roy Dilley or Dean of Science (Professor Alyson Tobin).
