Certificate in Career Development

The Certificate in Career Development (CCD) is designed to encourage and reward you for the efforts you put into your career planning. Your attendance at skills workshops organised by the Careers Centre will earn you points towards the Certificate.

By signing up for your first event you will be automatically pre-registered for the Certificate, and your subsequent record of attendance at eligible events will earn you CCD points. You can access your CCD progress through My Career which displays a log of the events you have attended and the points you have achieved.  We will notify you once you have accumulated the 30 points required to qualify for the Certificate.

You can also gain 10 points towards your certificate by writing an account of your work experience or internship. You should write an account of at least 500 words detailing a) the work of the employer, b) the tasks you were assigned, c) the contribution you made and d) what you learnt. Email your text file to careers@st-andrews.ac.uk. Include your name, course and St Andrews email address and put 'Work Experience for CCD' in the subject field.

Those who apply for unpaid internships in the United States may find that employers demand university recognition of their internship experience. The employer often speaks of a need for academic credit recognition which the University cannot offer for assessment reasons. However, in practice, such employers' requirements can usually be met by informing them that a satisfactory written report on the internship will gain credit towards this Certificate. If the employer wishes for individualised confirmation from the University for this purpose, please direct their enquiry to the Director of the Careers Centre, Mr Paul Brown
