Idea Explosion 2013
Got a great business idea? Want to save the world? Or perhaps be the next Richard Branson?
Enter your big idea into Idea Explosion 2013 giving you a fantastic opportunity to turn your great idea into a successful venture. If selected, you will have the opportunity to meet people who can give you professional business support in taking your idea from concept to creation.
We are looking for twelve finalists, with serious intentions to make their idea happen. Finalists will be invited to pitch their idea to the Provost’s Pit, a panel of experts, on Tuesday, 23 April 2013. Please make sure you will be available that afternoon! The four winners selected by our experts will receive £150 to use for testing their idea; space in our Idea Creation Lab for up to 3 months from June – August 2013; and up to a further £1,500 to fund start-up activities during their time in the Lab; plus a mentor and other support needed to get their idea off the ground.
There are no particular rules on the ideas accepted, other than they have to be legal of course. Non-profit or social enterprise ideas are equally acceptable, so don't worry if your idea isn’t purely a money maker. Furthermore, we don't mind about the background or industry in which your idea is framed - as long as you can explain to us how it works, then we want to hear about it. Our experts will be looking for ideas with potential to become successful ventures and your commitment to making that happen. Please remember we operate on the strictest confidentiality, so we won't pass details on to anyone without your permission.
The competition is open to undergraduate and postgraduate students of the University of St Andrews. Support and advice on your idea and filling in the entry form are available. Check the Events section of the Careers Centre website for workshops. The Enterprise Adviser, Bonnie Hacking is also available to meet with you. Contact Reception in the Careers Centre to arrange an appointment.
To enter, send your completed Idea Explosion 2013 entry form to bonnie.hacking@st-andrews.ac.uk. Please ensure you've filled in all the information requested, as incomplete entries will not be considered. Deadline: 1 April 2013.
