The University of St Andrews is Scotland’s oldest university, founded in 1411 by the medieval Scottish Church and King James I of Scotland. Its sexcentenary will commence in 2011, and we invite the world’s classification societies to join in our 600-year anniversary celebrations.
The Sunday Times University Guide ranked St Andrews “ Scottish University of the Year” in 2008 and top in Scotland. IFCS-11 will be hosted by the School of Management at the Gateway, rated “Excellent” in the RAE review, 2008. The School recently hosted very successful meetings of the European Academy of Management and the British Academy of Management.

St Andrews is well-known as the “Home of Golf”, where the rules of golf are set by the Royal and Ancient Golf Club, founded in 1764. The IFCS-11 conference dinner can be held at the St Andrews Old Course Hotel or the St Andrews Links Clubhouse, overlooking the famous Old Course, the oldest golf course in the world. Excellent conference dinners and receptions are also held in the ancient Lower College Hall of St Salvator’s College, set in the heart of the Old Town.
Conference Facilities
The School of Management at the Gateway is adjacent to the new Medical Sciences School and the newly-refurbished School of Physics and Astronomy, which together provide ample lecture theatres, seminar rooms, concourses and PC labs.
The Gateway has two lecture theatres (capacity 90 and 120), and six seminar rooms (capacity 16-24 boardroom style) suitable for breakout sessions or board meetings. All these rooms have state-of-the-art AV, supported by a Media Services team. There are 4 further meeting rooms (capacity 10), and the lecture theatres can be joined for a plenary meeting (capacity 220).
The Gateway has a flexible “Well Area” where refreshments and a buffet-style lunch can be served. It provides ample space for exhibitions, poster boards, registration and receptions.
The two adjacent Schools have tiered lecture theatres seating 300 and 350, respectively. All Schools have café dining facilities and lunch can also be catered at New Hall, a short walk away.
