Admission to Arché is conditional upon admission to the St Andrews Philosophy PhD programme.
Applicants should follow the guidelines to be found on the Postgraduate Admissions Office page.
Applicants will be required to complete a general application for admission and to submit an additional Philosophy application form.
Please note that there is no Arché-specific application form.
Applicants wishing to work within Arché should express their interest in the following places:
The 'Other Information' section of the general application form and section (a) of the Philosophy application form
('Reasons for applying for graduate study in philosophy at St Andrews').
Admission to Arché is not automatic upon acceptance to the St Andrews Philosophy PhD programme.
Arché aims at a running PhD student population of about 18 and is proactive in recruitment of new graduate student members
whenever it has prospective vacancies. Please be aware that the graduate intake to Arché often cannot be finalised before September
and some applicants may consequently
know of their admission to the St Andrews Philosophy PhD programme well in advance of a decision on their Arché application.
Details about UK and overseas funding sources are available here.
Occasionally, Arché offers PhD studentships associated with our external research grants.
When available these studentships are advertised on our News page.
