David Riches

We are very sorry to announce that David Riches died on the morning of 26th October 2011. David was one of the founders of the social anthropology department at St Andrews in 1979. He published a number of critically acclaimed pieces, including The Anthropology of Violence in 1986, helping establish the department's international reputation. His kindness to students and commitment to teaching was exemplary. In his final years he was very ill, but coped with his illness with great fortitude and bravery. He will be much missed in St Andrews.
