BURSARIES FOR STUDY IN CAS: APPLICATION PROCEDURE.

The School of Philosophical, Anthropological and Film Studies is offering scholarships to enable high quality students to join the PhD Programme of the Centre for Amerindian, Latin American and Caribbean Studies and the Department of Social Anthropology. The bursaries are equivalent to the remission of European/Home fees over a period of three years.

Candidates must secure a place on the postgraduate programme of the Department before they can be considered for a CAS scholarship. In the first instance candidates should apply to the PhD programme via the university webpage. Applicants will automatically become candidates for the CAS bursaries.

In addition to the completed application form, please send:

1. An outline of your research interests and a Research Proposal on a theme of Amerindian, Latin American or Caribbean interest (approx. 2000 words)
2. An up-to-date curriculum vitae
3. A recent example of your written work (for example, an essay of approx. 2000 words)
4. A passport size photograph (for reference only)
5. Two referees' reports
6. A transcript and evidence of existing qualifications (for example, a copy of your degree certificate)
7. Applicants whose first language is not English are also asked to provide evidence of competence in written and spoken English (for example, an IELTS or TOEFL score)

Candidates who receive an offer of a place on the Anthropology doctoral programme will automatically be considered for a CAS scholarship

Candidates from outside the European Community are encouraged to apply also for an ORS award, which can be held together with a CAS award and will cover the difference between home and overseas fees. See details on the University website. It should be remembered that the competition for the ORS awards comes from across the whole University and is very stiff. There are rarely more than around six awards, so overseas candidates are also advised to seek alternative sources of finance
