Alumni Relations runs an annual Reunion Weekend which takes place during the last weekend of June. The highlight of the weekend is a black tie Pre-Ball Dinner followed by a Reunion Ball. Reunion Weekend particularly honours those who are celebrating a five- or ten-year anniversary of their graduation but all alumni are warmly invited to attend.
Please contact us if you would like our help to organise a group to come to Reunion Weekend (perhaps related to your degree subject or hall of residence). We are also happy to provide support and advice to anyone who would like to organise a class, club or other reunion outwith the annual reunion programme, whenever or wherever it may be taking place.
Gift Aid is a UK government tax scheme, which enables the University to claim tax relief on donations received from UK taxpayers. For every £1 donated, 25p is added - a £100 gift with Gift Aid is worth £125 to the University.
Higher rate taxpayers are also able to claim tax back on their donation. The amount higher rate taxpayers can claim back is the difference between higher and basic rate tax (currently 20% as of 6th April 2008) on the gross value of the gift. In the example of a gift of £100, the gross value would be deemed to be £125 and a higher rate taxpayer could claim back £25.
In order for gifts to be eligible for Gift Aid, the donor must be a UK taxpayer who will have paid an amount of income tax and/or capital gains tax at least equal to the tax that the University of St Andrews will reclaim on the gifts in the relevant tax year in which the gifts are made.
The donor must sign a Gift Aid Declaration; this can either be open ended (applying to this donation and all future donations) or relating to a particular gift. This declaration is also available as part of our standard Gift Form.
Donations from companies are not eligible for Gift Aid to be reclaimed by the charity; however the company can treat the gift as an allowable expense, making a saving on Corporation Tax. Gifts made with Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) vouchers have already had Gift Aid claimed on them by CAF and passed to the charity, therefore further Gift Aid cannot be claimed.
