The Wardlaw Scholarship Programme
The St Andrews Wardlaw Scholarship programme continues to go from strength to strength with 10 new St Andrews Wardlaw Scholars beginning their university education in 2010. They will join the 39 current St Andrews Wardlaw Scholars who will be progressing into their second, third and fourth years of study. Thanks to the generous donations from supporters of this programme, the total amount to be disbursed to these 49 students in the 2010-11 academic year will be over £147,000. Without this help many of these academically gifted students would not have been able to take up the offer of a place here and benefit from all that St Andrews has to offer.
Since the Wardlaw Scholarship programme was set up in 2004, over £2.6m has been raised, 129 undergraduate students (including the new entrants for 2010) have received vital support and, so far, 70 St Andrews Wardlaw Scholars have graduated from the University, with another nine scheduled to graduate this summer. This level of participation from the student recipients and most importantly from the donors demonstrates the huge success this programme has achieved.
However, we wish to build on this success as we launch the University's 600th Anniversary by increasing the number of scholarship awards on offer. Our aim is to encourage all of those with excellent academic standing to apply to St Andrews in the knowledge that financial assistance is available to help them through their studies. This can only be achieved through the generosity of our alumni and friends and we continue to seek donations for this initiative.
