Beyond Graduation

St Andrews graduates have an excellent first destination record into employment and further study or training. This record is reflected in national university league tables.

Over half of all graduate vacancies in the job market are open to any academic discipline, i.e. the employer is less concerned with the degree subject than with the additional qualities that a graduate possesses. Employers seek a range of competencies such as business awareness, interpersonal skills, team work, leadership skills, organisational skills and communication. Above all, recruiters look for individuals who have demonstrated the capacity to learn quickly and achieve results.

In order to develop the looked for skills, and to provide evidence that you have them, you should make the most of the opportunities to get involved in extra-curricular activities and to gain work experience while at university. St Andrews offers a great range of clubs and societies through which you can pursue your interests and develop your skills. The Careers can also help you to identify appropriate work experience opportunities and how to achieve them.

Many St Andrews graduates go on to do further academic research throughout the world.
