Scottish domiciled students

Scottish domiciled students will have fees paid by the Government and will be supported by St Andrews scholarships and bursaries.

Tuition fees

No cost to student, see SAAS website for conditions.

If you are a Scottish domiciled, full-time, first degree student you should be eligible for your tuition fees to be paid by the Scottish Government. All such tuition fees will be paid through the Student Awards Agency for Scotland (SAAS).  Details on how and when to apply are available from SAAS.

Living costs

Government student loans

Scottish domiciled students are eligible to apply for student loans, which are the main source of governmental support towards living costs. The level of entitlement depends on family income and eligibility for a student loan is determined by the Student Awards Agency for Scotland (SAAS)

Government bursaries

Bursaries are non-repayable grants made available by the Scottish Government to some students for living cost support. These replace part of the student loan and do not have to be paid back. Eligibility criteria for these bursaries can be found on the SAAS website.

St Andrews Bursaries and Scholarships

St Andrews is committed to attracting the very best students, regardless of financial circumstances, which is why we offer a large number of bursaries and scholarships to undergraduate students. These are designed to provide assistance to help students support themselves during their time at university and also aim to reward academic excellence.

St Andrews Bursaries Scheme

We are offering 50 bursaries of up to £2,000 per annum that will supplement funding available from household contribution and government sources in order to alleviate financial burden. This will take into account the real living costs at the time of study. The bursary will be awarded on the basis of academic merit along with financial need. All Scottish domiciled applicants who have a household income up to £42,600 are eligible to apply.

Fife Dux Scholarship

The University is nationally and internationally recognised for its quality of teaching and research. However, it is also committed to rewarding excellence within the local community to which it belongs. The University will award the Fife Dux Scolarship to students who attend Fife state secondary schools and have been identified as the most academic and accomplished pupil at that school. £2,500 will be awarded to those students residing at the family home and £7,500 to those residing outside the family home for the duration of their studies. This will be awarded for each year of study at St Andrews.

As the Fife Dux Scholarship is intended to be given to the most academic and accomplished pupil of the school the award will be given on the basis of one per school. If the school has modified the Dux award to incorporate more than one pupil the University will only award the one scholarship per school and therefore if there are two entrants to the University the amount will be divided accordingly.

University of St Andrews Undergraduate Scholarships for Academic Excellence

The University of St Andrews is pleased to announce a new scholarship programme awarding undergraduate academic excellence for students entering after 2012. The Scholarship of £5,000 will be awarded to the top 100 students at the end of their Junior Honours Year irrespective of domicile or nationality.

Wardlaw Scholarships

Wardlaw Scholarships are available to students who would otherwise have difficulty in financing their university studies. Within the Wardlaw Scholarship Scheme there are awards that are specifically in place for students domiciled in Scotland. A number of scholarships are available ranging from £1,000 in the students year of entry to £3,000 per annum in each subsequent year of their undergraduate course.

Claire

"The views from every window, whether it’s out over Castle Sands or looking onto ‘Sallies Lawn’ are simply breathtaking. What I also love about St Andrews is the diversity. The people, the place, the community – it all adds up to the best decision I have ever made."
Claire (Kirkcaldy, Fife)
