International undergraduate students

Tuition fees

Your fees status will determine the level of tuition fees you will have to pay.

A guide to all current tuition fees can be found at annual tuition fees.

Payment of tuition fees

Tuition fees can be paid online in advance or upon matriculation in September. Other payment options, including an instalment plan, are described in more detail in the Money matters pages.

Living costs

There are a number of expenses and charges which are not covered by annual tuition fees.  As well as the cost of accommodation and individual subsistence you should make allowance for books and equipment, field trips, stationery, photocopying and computer disposables (for personal computers), laboratory fees, travel and laundry.

International students are required to demonstrate that they have sufficient funds available when they apply for their student visa. The UKBA stipulate that this is the cost of tuition fees plus £5,400 to cover living expenses. More details on the visa process and regulations can be found .

A guide to the cost of living at St Andrews can be found at Undergraduate cost of attendance.

Details of residence fees can be found at Accommodation.

Loans and financial assistance

International students should contact the relevant authority in their home country to find out what financial support may be available to assist with tuition fees and living costs. There are a number of organisations including the British Council, Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Scottish Enterprise and Department for International Development that offer scholarships to qualified overseas applicants.

Students from the US

We have a dedicated US Loans officer to help you with applying through the Direct Loan Program or options through Private Loans.

Maureen

Within ten seconds of arriving in this town, it no longer matters what nation you’re from, or where you went to high school. What matters is that you are now part of the wider academic “family” that exists in St Andrews; a family that I haven’t seen at any other university in the world. In a very genuine way, St Andrews has helped me to finally grow up.
