Fee Status
Your fees status will determine the level of tuition fees you will have to pay.
There are two categories of fee status: Home and Overseas. The University, in common with all others in the United Kingdom, charges fees at a higher rate to Overseas students from outside the European Union and at a lower rate to those classified as Home students who are subsidised by UK government funding.
Places for Home fee students are limited, consequently we need to establish fee status prior to making a decision on an application.
In brief, students who are EU nationals and who are resident within the EEA or Switzerland will generally be classified as Home students. All applicants who are either UK nationals living outside the UK or non-EU nationals temporarily resident in the UK should be certain of their fee status before registering for courses at the start of the academic year.
Home fee eligibility
In order to be eligible for Home fees you must be able to satisfy all of the following three conditions:
- You must have been ordinarily resident within the EU for the three years preceding the start of the course.
- You must have settled status in the EU, i.e. there must be no restrictions on your living and working here.
- You must have been resident in the EU for other than the purpose of full-time education.
There are a number of exceptions to the above conditions including the following categories of applicants:
- EU nationals, or the son or daughter of such provided that they have been resident within the European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland for the three years prior to the start of the course and not just for the reasons of full-time education.
- Students whose failure to satisfy the above arises only because their parents or their spouses were temporarily employed outside the EEA.
- Certain recently arrived immigrants who are formally recognised as having Refugee status in the UK prior to 1 September before the start of the course.
If after reading the above information and consulting the Fees and Funding page on the UKCISA website you are at all unsure whether you will be eligible for Home fee status please print and complete the Fee Status Enquiry Form (PDF, 289 KB) and return to mailto:fees@st-andrews.ac.uk
