Terms and Conditions of Evening Degree Scholarships 2012/13
Value, Number and Duration
(i) There will be between ten and twenty scholarships, worth between £100 and £400. The value will be dependent on the number of Evening Degree modules to be studied in the year, and an assessment of the student's financial need.
(ii) The scholarships are for 1 year, although re-application in subsequent years is invited.
(iii) Payment of the scholarship will be in two instalments: the first will be made shortly after matriculation as a student at the University of St Andrews, the second at the start of the second semester and dependent on continuation of the student's studies.
Eligibility and Selection Procedure
(i) The scholarships will be awarded annually.
(ii) The sole criterion for the award of Evening Degree scholarships is financial need, and any award will be at the sole discretion of the University.
(iii) Application should be made via the Online Evening Degree Scholarship form which can be found on the Scholarship Webpages. Your application must include a Personal Statement which explains the financial situation of your family/household. This statement should make reference to the criteria used for the award of these Scholarships:
- being on a low or restricted household income (N.B. unless this criterion is met, the application cannot be considered further)
- having childcare or other care costs related to evening study being sole or principal contributor to family income
- having to travel to St Andrews for study
- reliance on public transport
- having an attested medical condition which affects your financial situation
Failure to provide the specified information, or submission of an incomplete form, by the deadline will jeopardize the success of any application.
(iv) The closing date for receipt of applications by the University of St Andrews Scholarship Support Office is Friday 31 August 2012 (early application is advised). Applications received after the deadline will not be considered, unless there are exceptional circumstances which are notified to the Scholarship Support Office as soon as is possible.
(v) The University will select those to whom scholarships will be awarded. Successful and unsuccessful applicants will be informed of the outcome of these decisions, and a reserve list (in order of priority) will also be maintained. Initial decisions will normally be communicated by the end of September.
(vi) The University reserves the right to reclaim all or a proportion of the Scholarship awarded if an applicant withdraws from the Evening Degree programme.
