Entry Directly into Second Year
It is possible for well-qualified school leavers to apply for admission directly into the second year of some Science degree programmes. This permits a BSc Honours degree to be obtained in three years instead of four, and an enhanced Honours degree such as the MChem, MPhys or MSc Honours to be obtained in four years rather than five.
This route is particularly popular with entrants to degrees in Physics and Chemistry and is also possible in the Biological Sciences.
Additional entrance requirements for entry directly into second year can be found in the prospectus and our A-Z Course List.
Advanced Standing Credits in the Faculty of Science
Where appropriate, Advanced Standing Credits may be awarded based on school or college qualifications and are counted towards the total credits required for the award of a degree from the University of St Andrews.
Applicants considering this route should bear in mind that entry into second year does reduce the flexibility of choice which is normally found within the Scottish four-year Honours degree.
