Schools Liaison in Scotland
Careers Conventions
These are normally school-based events and are sometimes also called subject-choice nights. Each year we attend over 50 of these events in schools across Scotland. At a Careers Convention you will receive informative and relevant advice on how to apply to the University as well as details of attending our Visiting Days or Summer Schools. S2 pupils and their parents will find these nights useful when choosing which Standard Grades to choose while S4/5 pupils will gain expert advice on taking the right Higher or Advanced Higher combination to apply to university. This is your opportunity to get the right information on applying to St Andrews so please take the time to talk to one of our representatives.
Higher Education Conventions
These events are usually organised by Careers Scotland and UCAS in large regional venues throughout the year. Penultimate and final year pupils from local schools are brought in to meet with representatives from colleges and universities. Attending an HEC is often the first stage in applying for university and where you will pick up your first prospectus. Details of the HECs across the UK can be found at the UCAS Convention website. When attending these events, a good tip is to bring a sturdy bag with you as these prospectuses can be very heavy!
School Talks
We can deliver a range of talks to pupils in S4, S5 and S6. These include topics such as 'Choosing a University', 'Writing a UCAS Personal Statement', and 'Applying to the University of St Andrews'. However, we can also tailor the content according to the needs of the school or college.
Visiting Days
The University of St Andrews encourages prospective students to book a place on a Visiting Day in order to appreciate the University's splendid location, the quality of the teaching and research on offer and the vibrant student social scene. On any one of our Visiting Days you will be inspired and encouraged by what you hear, see and do. There are nine Visiting Days scheduled each year on Wednesdays.
