Students from England, Wales or Northern Ireland
Home fee students domiciled in England, Wales or Northern Ireland, starting a first degree or equivalent course in a Scottish university or college will be required to make a personal contribution towards the cost of their annual tuition.
Please note that fees in Scotland have been set by the Scottish Executive and so do not vary between institutions of Higher Education.
Graduate Endowment
Unlike students domiciled in Scotland and the EU, students from England, Wales and Northern Ireland will not have to contribute to the Graduate Endowment.
Student Loan Programme
Since 2006 students have been entitled to take out a student loan to cover the cost of tuition fees. If you choose to take out a student loan you will not be required to start repaying it until you have graduated and are earning a salary of above £15,000 per year.
Full details about the Student Loan Programme are available from the Department for Education and Skills (DfES).
Financial assistance
Financial support is available to students mostly in the form of student loans and Local Education Authority (LEA) maintenance grants. The total amount available is income assessed and the application process for Scottish universities is the same as for universities outside Scotland.
Students domiciled in England or Wales should seek further guidance from their LEA or from the Government's free student support line (Tel. 0800 731 9133). A full list of LEA details can be obtained from the Department for Education and Skills (DfES).
Students from Northern Ireland should apply to their local Education and Library Board for financial support. Full details are available from the Department for Employment and Learning (DELNI).
