Commonwealth Scholarships: Developing Countries

The Commonwealth Scholarship Commission offers opportunities to citizens of Developing Commonwealth countries to study in the UK, as part of the UK's contribution to the Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan. These awards are funded by the Department for International Development.

Eligibility 

 

Geographical Criteria:

Commonwealth citizens, refugees or British protected persons, and permanently resident in a Commonwealth country other than the UK, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man, and permanently resident in a developing Commonwealth country (see list on website).

Additional Criteria:

Applicants must hold a first degree of upper second class Honours standard (or above); or a second class degree and a relevant postgraduate qualification, which will normally be a Master’s degree.

 

What does it cover?

 

 Duration:

Up to 3 years (1 year only if Masters or split-site PhD applicant)

Value (per annum):

Includes tuition fees, inward and homeward airfares, monthly stipend at government rate, arrival allowance, thesis grant and a study travel grant. Fieldwork travel costs may also be provided. See the Commonwealth Scholarships website for details.
