Postgraduate Students' Allowances Scheme (PSAS)
Under the terms of the Postgraduate Students' Allowances Scheme (PSAS), students may receive tuition fee support from the Student Awards Agency for Scotland (SAAS) for certain full-time vocational courses. For general information about the scheme, please visit the SAAS website.
PSAS funding currently covers the full Home tuition fee, and does not include maintenance grants.
To be eligible to apply for support you must:
- meet the set residence conditions (see the residence conditions page on the SAAS website for more details)
- be studying a course that is supported by the scheme; and
- not have received support from UK public funds for a previous vocational postgraduate course. Or if you are an EU (including UK) national, you have not received support from another EU country.
Please note that only a small number of courses at St Andrews are supported by PSAS.
The courses for PSAS 2011-12 have not yet been confirmed. Last year the following were covered by the scheme:
- Advanced Computer Science
- Applied Statistics & Data Mining
- Graduate Diploma Information Technology
- Management and Information Technology
- Museum and Gallery Studies

Application
If you are eligible you do not need to do anything at this stage to apply for PSAS funding. Each School partaking in the scheme is asked to nominate students, and if you are nominated you will receive an application form from Postgraduate Admissions to complete and return to SAAS. Please note that you cannot access the PSAS application form yourself (e.g. on the SAAS website); it can only be provided to you by the University.
