Application Decisions and Responses
How applications are processed
All applications are processed by the Postgraduate Admissions Office. When we receive your application, you will be sent an acknowledgement email or letter that will contain a unique applicant ID number. Please remember to quote this applicant number if you need to contact the University about any aspect of your application.
Application decisions
Decisions on admission to postgraduate programmes are made by academic Schools and communicated to the Postgraduate Admissions Office. The decision could be:
- An unconditional offer which means that you have already satisfied all the academic conditions required for entry and we are offering you a place.
- A conditional offer which means that you have not yet satisfied the academic conditions required for entry. The condition(s) of your admission will be given in our offer letter and may include such things as the classification of your forthcoming degree, or evidence of English language ability.
- We are unable to offer you a place.
Responding to an offer
On receiving an offer from the Unversity, you have 3 options
- Accept your offer
- Decline your offer
- Ask to be considered for deferred entry - if your circumstances have changed please email the appropriate school directly with your request, stating your reasons for deferring. The School will then notify Postgraduate Admissions if deferment has been granted and an updated offer letter will be issued.
Accepting an Offer
If you decide to accept our offer, please let us know as soon as possible and certainly no later than 15 August. Your application cannot proceed until your status is "unconditional firm" - that is, until you have firmly accepted an unconditional offer, including the payment of deposit if applicable, so we recommend that you accept your place as soon as possible.
Accommodation: Having received your offer and accepted, you can now apply for student accommodation to register your preferred type of accommodation. Student Accommodation will acknowledge your application however contracts and further details are only sent to students whose status is "unconditional firm" from June onwards.
Deposits: If your offer requires you to pay a deposit, to secure your place, you will need to arrange for this to be paid as advised within your offer letter. Your application will not be able to proceed until your deposit is paid. Deposits only apply to taught programmes within the Schools of Management and Economics and Finance.
Conditional offers: If you have a conditional offer and are still to submit your final academic and/or English test results, it is very important that you send these to us as soon as they become available - your application will not be able to proceed until we receive these. Any delay will stop your accommodation details/contract from being released and, if you are an international student, the issue of your visa support letter.
New Entrants Information: Registry will send, by email from May, New Entrants information to all students whose status is "unconditional firm".
Notes
- Financial assistance
The offer of a place to undertake further study or research does not carry with it the guarantee of financial support. - Point of entry
Students generally commence their studies at the start of the Martinmas Semester in September. It is sometimes possible for students entering directly into research without taught courses to commence at other points during the year, by special arrangement. .
