Postgraduate Students
The University of St Andrews is not only Scotland's first University (founded 1413) but also its leading university, not just on our own judgement, but according to independent assessment. For almost six centuries, we have proudly upheld the tradition of academic excellence.
We are one of the UK's leading research-led institutions, attracting scholars of international repute and students from all over the world.
Today over 1,000 of our 6,500 students are postgraduates studying in one of our four Faculties of Arts, Science, Divinity and Medicine. All our academic Schools, Departments, Centres and Institutes are actively involved in pushing back the frontiers of knowledge whilst retaining the unique collegiate atmosphere allowing staff, student and townsfolk to work together within a genuine community.

Visiting the University
The University encourages prospective students to visit the University. A programme of Visiting Days is published each year and individual visits are possible most year round.
A visit to the University will provide the opportunity to meet potential supervisors or course directors (each postgraduate student works under the supervision of a member of staff), discuss the research project or content of the course, and to see the facilities available. It is advisable to book a meeting with a member of staff in advance of arriving at the University.
