Alternative Visiting Arrangements
Alternative visiting arrangements for UK/EU prospective students
With 12,000 undergraduate applicants each year and 7000 prospective students coming to visit the University, our Visiting Day programme will give you you a comprehensive insight into academic and student life at the University. Outwith Visiting Days we are unable to offer prospective students access to academic departments or University Managed Accommodation. This is in order to respect the privacy of current students and to allow academic colleagues to focus on teaching and research in order to maintain our culture of academic excellence.
An alternative visit would include the following:
Watching the University DVD (15 minutes)
On arrival at Admissions reception, you will be shown the University DVD which is designed to give you a brief overview of the University and the St Andrews student experience. You can also watch it here.
Question & Answer Session
After the DVD, you will meet with a member of our Student Recruitment & Admissions team. This talk (usually within a small group) covers application information, degree structure, accommodation, University facilities and University life. You should read the undergraduate Entry Requirements before you request to visit as it is likely that prospective students not meeting our entrance requirements at the first examination diet will not be offered a place. Unfortunately staff in this session will be unable to give any indication whether or not a potential UCAS application would be successful or not.
Walking Tours (45 minutes)
These tours are given by Student Ambassadors. The majority of the tour takes place outdoors where you will be shown around the central streets and buildings of St Andrews. The tour will incorporate a visit to the main University library and will finish with the Ambassador taking you to the Students' Union.
Subjects covered during the Walking Tour include the University's history, student traditions and student life. Visitors are actively encouraged to ask questions. Please be prepared for the tempremental Scottish weather and note that no luggage can be stored by a member of staff whilst you go on the tour.
How to book an alternative visit
These visits can be scheduled Monday to Friday at 11am only
You can only book an alternative visit on a non-Visiting Day week. Please fill out the following Individual Visitor Form (DOC, 58 KB) and send it to altvisit@st-andrews.ac.uk You must also give three dates that you are available to come to St Andrews. Please contact us at least two weeks in advance of your first proposed date to visit. We will endeavour to contact you with a potential date within four working days of receiving your request.
