Dr Ewan D Chirnside BSc PhD

Prior to moving to St Andrews in December 2001 Ewan was Business Development Manager for Lifesciences, Medicine and Veterinary Medicine at Edinburgh Research & Innovation, the University of Edinburgh¿s research and enterprise subsidiary. Ewan studied microbiology at the University of Dundee and after completing his PhD at the University of Kent held research posts at the London School of Pharmacy, the University of Utrecht and the Animal Health Trust, where he studied various aspects of equine virus diseases. Following hands-on experience with the patent process, technology commercialisation and licensing Ewan left the laboratory bench in 1996 for his first post in business development at Dundee University. Ewan is a member of the Association of University Research and Industrial Liaison, the Association of Technology Managers, the Licensing Executives Society and Crail Golfing Society. Leisure time is spent golfing and sailing or with family & friends.

Alistair B Main BSc MSc MBA CEng MIET

At the outset of his career, following the completion of his first degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering where he specialised in telecommunications subjects, Alistair entered the UK broadcast sector as a technologist with Scottish Television plc in Glasgow. After a two-year period working in the Vision Technology Section he moved to work within the ITV Association (London) Network Technology Development Laboratories where, over a twelve year period, he held an R and D position working on digital television projects and on HDTV demonstration projects as part of the Eureka 95 project, ultimately reaching the position of Project Manager.

Prior to joining the University of St Andrews, for three years, Alistair held a business development manager's post in physical sciences in Research and Innovation Services at the University of Dundee, following a two-year period working with Scottish Design Ltd in an economic development position in the public sector, starting-up, running and marketing a design initiative for local SMEs.

In the KTC, Alistair has managerial responsibility for the technology transfer of the intellectual assets within the University's intellectual property rights portfolio arising from the Scientific research business areas. He also has responsibilities for the management of the University's Intellectual Property Rights portfolio, business development outreach activities, commercialisation contracts and in marketing the novel technologies to industry.

Alistair also holds an MSc in Electrical Engineering and an MBA from the University of Dundee. He is a Chartered Engineer of the Engineering Council (UK) and a Corporate Member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology.
