Conference and Group Services

The University of St Andrews offers state of the art conference facilities, venues for 9 - 900 people, over 1,300 en-suite bedrooms and an unrivalled position within the ancient town of St Andrews. Delegates in St Andrews can enjoy 5 miles of award winning beaches, world famous golf courses and a town that is rich in history.

Residential conferences

Conference and Group Services offer a wide range of assistance and support to both internal and external customers looking to hold a conference or event at the University of St Andrews. We are a division of Residential and Business services and our role is to deliver commercial revenue for the University and assist members of the academic community to host conferences that will help to raise the profile of the department, the relevant associations and that of the University of St Andrews.

These services include:

  • Venue selection
  • Assistance with the preparation of bid materials
  • Event management and logistical planning
  • Assistance with organising the social programme
  • Advice on the options for catering
  • Assistance with room set up and A/V requirements
  • Support with set up of on-line payment system for conferences and events
  • On-site support during the event

Please note: No outside caterers are permitted on the campus and all conferences attended by external representatives should be booked via Conference and Group Services.

Day conferences and events

We offer a range of all inclusive day delegate packages that makes it easy for you to organise day conferences at the University of St Andrews. We have facilities available throughout the year. Although these are limited during term time, reading week and the Easter vacation are popular dates for larger events.

We are happy to work with you to create bespoke menus and event quotations that match your specific event budget and your detailed requirements. We arrange over 140 events each year and have excellent contacts with outside suppliers together with a detailed knowledge of the catering options that work best in each of the venues.

In addition we have contacts with several local hotels and can assist in obtaining discounted accommodation for groups during term time.

All conferences involving external delegates must be booked via Conference and Group Services.

To protect the experience of the client, minimise confusion, ensure compliance of H&S regulations and maintain the reputation of the University. All external companies who book conferences with us are subject to strict terms and conditions. These contracts protect the University, and ensure adherence to statutory regulations, also meeting the needs of the University's insurance agents.

In order to comply with tax regulations, and the request of the auditors, external events cannot be organised via an internal department with the aim of reducing costs to an external company/client.

Room bookings

We offer a room booking service for several unique venues within the University; these venues have a range of usage restrictions which means they cannot currently be accessed via the online room booking system.

Please contact us if you have any queries regarding the following rooms or would like to check the availability of any dates.

  • Lower College Hall - charges applicable all year
  • Upper College Hall - charges applicable all year,
  • Parliament Hall - free of charge all year for staff members
  • Senate Room - no food permitted, free of charge all year for staff members
  • Seminar 4/5 in The Gateway - charges applicable all year
  • Meeting Rooms 3 and 4 at David Russell Apartments - charges applicable summer vacation only

In order to book a room please complete a room booking form () and return it to reservations@st-andrews.ac.uk. You will be sent a notification of your booking confirmation via email.

Wedding receptions

Lower College Hall and Upper College Hall in St Salvator's Quad provide an impressive setting for wedding receptions, dinners and exclusive events.

Lower College Hall can accommodate up to 152 guests for a wedding reception and on summer days the manicured lawns of St Salvator's Quad provide a stunning setting for drinks receptions and wedding photographs.

Upper College Hall, which can be reached via a grand staircase, provides a wonderful venue for those wishing to hold an evening reception. Facilities available include a dance floor, a stage for the band, an oak bar and an excellent PA system.

The facility fee for the hire of Upper and Lower College Hall at St Salvator's Quad is £795.00 inclusive of VAT.

This includes:

  • Exclusive use of Upper College Hall for up to 10 hours*
  • Exclusive use of Lower College Hall for up to 10 hours*
  • A small room available during the day for the bride and her attendants to use
  • Use of a solid silver cake base and knife
  • Services of a Toastmaster for your event
  • White or coloured table linen (depending on your theme) and matching linen napkins; all cutlery, crockery and glassware
  • A table plan and menu cards
  • A hospitality manager to help with the planning of your event

(For Sunday weddings we are able to offer a discounted facility fee of £530.00 inclusive of VAT)

Please note from 1st January 2009 staff members will be entitled to a 10% discount on the facility fee and 10% off any of the drinks packages when booking a wedding reception in Lower College Hall.

Wedding ceremonies

Upper College Hall holds a licence for civil ceremonies and can accommodate up to 160 guests. Please contact the Hospitality Manager if you would like more information on arranging a civil ceremony in Upper College Hall.

Bed & Breakfast at Agnes Blackadder Hall

Agnes Blackadder Hall operates as a 3 star guest accommodation during the summer. All rooms have en-suite shower rooms, double beds, tea/coffee making facilities, alarm clocks, wi-fi and TVs.

Bed & Breakfast at McIntosh Hall

McIntosh Hall offers budget accommodation in the heart of St Andrews. This traditional stone built residence offers standard accommodation in comfortable single or twin rooms. All rooms have wash-hand basins with other bathroom facilities shared.

Self Catering at David Russell Apartments

David Russell offers contemporary self-catering apartments which may prove the perfect base for visitors who are looking for a base for 7 or more days. David Russell Apartments each feature 5 bedrooms with a well ¿ equipped kitchen/diner.

Each bedroom boasts an en-suite shower room, a double bed and a TV. Designed and built with the environment in mind the apartments have been awarded Gold by the Green Tourism Scheme.

The development also includes a restaurant, a small shop, fully licensed bar, secure cycle storage and a laundry.

We offer accommodation to members of the general public on either a 3 day or 7 day basis; however University of St Andrews staff members are able to book part lets and varying lengths of stay, subject to availability.
