Wardennial services
Within each hall of residence a Wardennial Team (55 members of staff in all) fulfill a role which involves much more than handing out keys. The Wardennial Team work alongside the Residence Management team who look after the fabric and furnishings of the hall and who ensure a smooth running of the halls cleaning provision. The Wardens, however, take responsibility for encouraging a sense of community within each hall, alongside maintaining discipline so all can enjoy their time there and are the key contacts for student life within the hall.
Whichever format of hall, the Wardennial Team actively encourages the students to join in with their fellow residents organising game nights, activities, Balls and excursions. The Wardennial Team will be the first point of call if a health crisis occurs or if a student is in distress. They keep order in the hall and monitor discipline procedures. Although in no way are they in loco parentis for students, their role is one of a mentor, adviser and supporter within the hall.
The Wardens come under the Student Services banner and report to Rob Warren. Each Warden manages a team of between 3 and 7 Assistant Wardens.

Warden: Matt Stillman
Hello, My name is Matt Stillman and I am the warden of Albany Park. I moved here with my wife Karen and our two young children Declan (8) and Jocelyn (1) in February when I took up post at Albany Park. As Albany Park is my family's home, the management of Albany Park and it being an enjoyable and safe place to live is of utmost importance to me. During the day, I work as one of the counsellors at Student Services. Together with 3 assistant wardens, I aim to ensure each Albany Park resident (often called Albanites) resides in an accommodation which they feel enhances their overall student experience and where they feel safe, their needs are met personally and socially and they are able to focus on their studies. Myself and my team pride ourselves on being approachable and responsive. We are available via e-mail, telephone or through catching us 'out and about ' Albany Park between the hours of 7pm to 8am Monday through Friday and 2pm to 8am at the weekends. Whether you have questions about the town, issues with flatmates, troubles with noise, are experiencing any form of emotional turmoil or you have questions or concerns about safety, myself and the rest of the wardennial team are happy to meet with you and try to help you manage any problem you may be faced with or find the resources in the community where needed.
You can contact the Albany Park team on apwarden@st-andrews.ac.uk or at our drop-in service every Thursday at 7.30pm. For emergencies from 5pm to 8.45am and on weekends please phone 7099.

Our aim is to ease the transition from home dweller to hall reveller and hope to provide a welcoming atmosphere throughout your time in Andrew Melville.
With a hall of over 200 students, meeting you all may take us some time. With this in mind we organise regular High Tables which are popular dinners with fellow residents, invited guests and include a welcome drink. We will also organise other fun social events throughout the year with the aim of creating a communal spirit for our residents which will help to develop a great hall experience. It is important that we get to know all our 'Melvites' so please introduce yourself at any time.
University should be as comfortable as possible. If you feel distressed or just feel something isn't right, please contact us for an informal and confidential chat. We can arrange access to the many University services, staff and facilities available to help students during their stay with us. It is also our responsibility to respond to hall emergency situations as your health and safety is paramount.
Please realise the potential of the Warden and Assistant Warden team and help us make your stay in Melville as comfortable as possible. Andrew Melville Hall will be your home: a place to work, relax and have fun and, if you want to get the best out of your hall life, please get involved!

Hi, I'm Jamie. I've been the Warden of St Regulus Hall ("Regs") since February 2012. I'm studying for my PhD in the school of Divinity, where I also work as a Research Assistant and Tutor in New Testament studies. I am married to Becky, and we have two young children, who also all live here in hall and add their own contribution to the already fantastic family atmosphere! If you have any questions about life in Regs, feel free to catch me or any member of the wardennial team at dinner, (I'm often having coffee afterward in the Regs library - follow the sound of the children!), or during our drop-in hours (7-8pm) at the Warden's office."
