Academic Council
Academic Council
As the membership of Senate is so large (currently in excess of c.210 people), the Senatus Academicus devolves most of its business to a more streamlined Academic Council, which was established in October 1996. This decision was taken primarily in the interests of more efficient academic government. The maximum number of members of Academic Council, appointed and elected, was agreed as 45.
Academic Council makes decisions regarding all education matters - e.g. semesterisation, marking scales and teaching regulations - and is chaired by the Principal as President of Senate. Many routine learning and teaching matters are initially progressed by the Teaching, Learning and Assessment Committee, which meets prior to each Academic Council meeting and which advises on appropriate polices and best practice in its areas of remit.

Minor edits to minutes may occasionally be made for reasons of confidentiality. In such instances, a note will be inserted highlighting the section in which an edit has been made.
