History of Fife Park
Fife Park
was built in 1972 and consists of 42 standard self-contained houses and two
smaller properties situated just beyond David Russell Apartments and the University
playing fields about a mile and a half from the centre of St
Andrews.
Each house at Fife Park comprises kitchen/diners with a cooker and fridge/freezer, six study bedrooms, a shower with hand basin, and two W.C.'s.
The University has been publicly committed to the redevelopment of Fife Park for several years because the general standard of accommodation falls well below that which we want to offer to present and future generations of students.
It is also one of the least energy efficient halls.
Changes to the Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMO) legislation enforced by local authorities in Scotland mean that Fife Park as presently constituted will fail to meet the requirements of these regulations and will cease to be licensed as a residence after 2010. This is because Fife Park has six bedrooms per house and the new regulations will allow only five.
The University must therefore close, restructure or replace Fife Park.
