General Council Elections
The Chancellor
The Chancellor of the University is elected by the members of the General Council. The present Chancellor, Sir Menzies Campbell, was elected from 1 January 2006 and holds this office for life.
General Council Assessors to the University Court
Every two years the General Council elects one of its members to serve as an Assessor to the University Court for a four-year term. The current Assessors are - Miss Kathleen M Patrick (re-elected 2008 until 31 July 2012) and Dr Ewan Brown CBE FRSE (re-elected 2010 until 31 July 2014). The General Council will elect one of its members to replace Miss Patrick as an Assessor for a period of four years from 1st August 2012.

Voting will close at 12 noon on Wednesday 13 June 2012 with the result announced at the General Council Meeting at10.30am on Saturday 23 June 2012 in Parliament Hall, St Andrews.
Please note that members of the Senatus Academicus of the University of St Andrews are ineligible to vote in the General Council Assessor election.

Committee of the Alumnus Association
The Alumnus Association Committee has one vacancy to be filled from 1 July 2012, for a period of five years, to succeed James North. There were two nominations (details below) for this vacancy at the nomination deadline of 30 March 2012.

Business Committee
The Business Committee has four vacancies to be filled from 1 July 2012. Three vacancies are for four-year terms to succeed Nick Robinson, Eliot Wilson and Alex Yabroff and one vacancy is for a period of one year to succeed Dr Martin Lowe. The following three nominations were received at the closing date of 30 March 2012 and have been declared as duly elected to serve on the Business Committee for a period of four years from 1 July 2012.
